Catering Officers Region East
The Role of CORE is
v
To provide an opportunity to meet other catering groups
v
To provide a forum for the exchange of information and ideas
v
To explore opportunities to
work together to fulfill the aims of the Rural Fire Service
Whilst meetings of CORE are facilitated via the Region
East Office, the group does not make or decide policy. Rather its aim is to
provide recommendations to Fire Control Officers for the benefit of individual
groups and the overall benefit of the Region.
Brief Background
Local Government areas making up the above group include those within Hastings - Port Macquarie to Shellharbour to Merriwa.
Our Crews are all volunteers within the NSW Rural Fire Service and are responsible for feeding Rural Fire Service Firefighters at emergencies such as Bush fires, Motor Vehicle Accidents, HAZMAT incidents, State of Emergencies -such as Autumn Storm-where NSW Rural Fire Service members are engaged. Other activities that our members are involved in may include providing meals at training events for Rural Service Firefighters, Hazards reductions, Community events. At times, these activities may include feeding members of other emergency services, namely - Police, Ambulance, NSW Fire Brigades, S.E.S., R.T.A.
Each groups activities are at the approval of the Local Government Area Fire Control Officer. Costs are generally covered by way of reimbursement for costs incurred, with some groups undertaking events such as sausage sizzles and dinners as means of raising funds to purchase equipment for the groups continued service to the members of the Rural Fire Service. (Some groups fund raise for feeding firefighters.)
The closest way to describe the work we do, would be to liken us to the
army, feeding its troops under field combat conditions. The groups are
available 24 hours a day for response as needed when fires occur. The work of
most groups is intermittent, determined by fire and other incidents as they
occur.
